The major scientific breakthrough is linked to solving a 50-year-old riddle in molecular biology, and this great achievement was completed by a London-based artificial intelligence company, DeepMind, which is owned by Google. This company is very well known for artificial intelligence software that does its job better than the best human players out there. The AlphaFold program has helped in predicting many protein shapes. We could say this is a major breakthrough in computer science, as there are around 200 million protein species in the world. The researchers worked on solving the protein riddle for almost three decades.
According to the Google-owned company, this program can detect a protein shape in just a few days. For this project, DeepMind worked with the scientists at the 14th Community Wide Experiment on the Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP14).
According to Venki Ramakrishnan, a Nobel Prize-winning structural biologist, this artificial intelligence software has made a major breakthrough in the protein-folding program. Additionally, Janet Thornton, an expert in protein structure and former director of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s European Bioinformatics Institute believes the Google-owned company has opened the way to all the proteins present in the human body.
