5 Strangest Planets We’ve Ever Discovered

First things first, what is actually an exoplanet?

We know all the planets that are part of our Solar System orbit around the Sun. There are planets that orbit around other stars, so they are called exoplanets. Now that we know the basics, we can dive into the subject.

1. HD 189773b

This exoplanet can be named simply “The Nightmare”. This exoplanet is 64 lightyears away from us and it’s not suitable for living at all. If you have the misfortune to spend 64 lightyears to visit it, I will feel sorry for you.

The winds blow at 5,405 mph and you’ll also be cut when it will be raining. It’s not like on Terra – you won’t see raindrops – but only glass rain. Plus, another “great” aspect is that if you want a nice tan, you surely will end up being dead, because the temperature it’s 2,372°F.

2. TOI 849 b

If you were worried about getting old, then TOI 849 b is certainly not for you! This exoplanet orbits so closely to its star, that it takes only 18 hours for a year to pass.

You won’t be able to celebrate your 100th birthday on this exoplanet, because there’s no atmosphere and the 2,786°F would melt the cake and also you.

This exoplanet was discovered by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) in 2020. It might be a 1 year old “toddler” exoplanet for us, but I’m sure that TOI 849 b thinks that in her years, she’s actually really old.

3. K2-18b

This exoplanet has eight times the mass of our Earth and twice the radius. In 2019 it was announced that water has been discovered in this exoplanet’s atmosphere. K2-18b is a rocky exoplanet that orbits in an area of its star that is habitable. There are zones on this exoplanet in which liquid water could actually pool on the surface.

Don’t be so happy about it, because it seems like this exoplanet doesn’t really want to meet up with people. It can be compared to Neptune, because it has a thick hydrogen atmosphere, a rocky iron core and also a watery layer. Let’s not forget about the temperatures. They are way too high to support life. Guess we’ll stay stuck on the Earth!

The next exoplanet is a lone wolf…
