As the first U.S. state to suffer a major Delta outbreak, Missouri is a harbinger for other regions of the country that also have low vaccination rates and a mix of rural areas and small towns with a handful of mid-sized cities – which is to say, much of the country.
Missouri currently records 40.6 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people every day, while only 41.1% of Missouri residents are fully vaccinated.
In St Louis, a local mask mandate in indoor public places and on public transportation was reimposed. The next day, Kansas City’s mayor said that his city will also bring back its indoor mask order.

More Covid half-truths. Why not report the results in Vermont where 88% of the adult population has been vaccinated, and 99% of adults over 65 have been vaccinated. They are currently having a surge in Covid infections that is equal to the surge last year before the vaccines were available.
If the US is 330 million people and all those people could be vaccinated, that might limit the illness and death from a public policy perspective. I have been vaccinated. I calculated that since I am old, the danger for me was higher than average. However, I would not insist that everyone do what I did because the risks and benefits vary by person. The news, of which I consider this article a part, always presents the decision to be vaccinated as if there is only one good answer. Too many public policy issues are presented in this fashion. In reality, the issue is more complex, and individual understandings of it can lead in different directions. I think the slanting of the issue, and the failure to fully develop alternate understandings of it, are counter-productive. In effect I am saying that the vaccine level would be higher if the presentation of the issue was not so slanted. By slanting the issue, the public is being treated as if they were not able to fully rationalize for themselves. Many people sense this and resent it. There is always doubt. But greater doubt and skepticisms are fostered by the constant uni-directional slanting of the discussion. In the end, we will all see what happens. Trust is in very short supply. That is hardly surprising if you consider the modern news. This whole grand experiment in self-government is under a credibility strain. The smarter people who think they are fooling others may simply be fooling themselves. Hard to trust people who fool themselves. Its better to trust people who identified the "self-evident truths".
