Myth #4. Polar bear numbers are on the rise

Definitely a myth! It’s important to remember that climate change is the biggest threat to polar bears up to this day. In fact, the Arctic is warming twice as fast compared to the rest of the world, therefore, sea ice will melt earlier than usual, and form later than it’s supposed to.

The Biggest Risks Facing Humanity in 2020. Read more HERE!

This effect of climate change makes it even more difficult for female polar bears to go to the land every autumn and build their dens. At the same time, they will also find it very hard to get into the sea ice during springtime, to search for food for their cubs, as their main food source, seals, are also highly affected by climate change.

Moreover, polar bears now how to survive with less food than ever before, which makes it so much harder. Unfortunately, if we don’t do something about it, polar bear populations are expected to drop by 30 percent in 30 years.

  • The earth had to overcome birth, 4.5 billion yrs ago. If it can overcome that challenging epic of birth why not puny mans contributions? One volcanoes eruption introduces more pollution than mans effort of yrs. does.

  • It is 100% political. Who wrote this silly article? Humans have NO CONTROL of the planet. It controls us. What is the #1 cause of temperatures going up? Volcanoes. Long before humans lived volcanoes controlled the planet. Present: warm. Absent: cold.

    • Don't confuse the anti-oil, anti-Western Civilization zealots. They want us all to be Third World Countries.

  • Actually volcanoes cool the earth. The ashes block the sun. 1992 was “the year without a summer” because of weakened sunlight from Mount Pinatubo erupting.

    • John, just a small fact about Pinatubo. First, I saw the eruption in person. Second, and most important, the eruption of Pinatubo did more damage the earths attmosphere than all of human existance on this planet and it fixes itself. If the tree hugging community were to be unable to strike fear in public at large, then they'd lose all funding. Always follow the money.

  • Well I'm old enough to remember global cooling. We were going to become an ice ball. What happened? I was willing to listen to your opinion, however it became clear that this poorly written article or it was not edited thoroughly was not going to shed any light on the theory of GW. Which alway lessens my interest in following the story. Here are just a few examples of what I mean.
"making it much less cheap" that's my favorite
"This is the biggest crisis we ever have to say, and sadly it's man-made."
    "now how to survive"
There are many other little things that make this hard to take seriously.
I'm just a simple old man. I'm not a writer, but I've always noticed these little things that annoyed me. But I'm willing to do my part so here's a helpful solution for two problems. To help with water problems in the western part of the country crank up the desalinization plant on the California coast. Also bring in the desalinization ships that the US Navy has and pump that water into the the farmlands, lakes and reservoirs. I know they don't have big hoses, and it's not like filling a pool. However I'm sure the US Army Corps of Engineers "Essayons" (let us try) can find a way to transport the fresh water to the right location. This, I'm sure you already realized, will take a massive amount of water from the ocean which may help with global sea rise.

  • The Earth's climate is cyclic. Early on, the Earth was mostly molten rock but that was before the Ice Age. Florida used to be under water with sharks roaming the "state." Dinosaurs used to walk the planet when most of it was covered with snow and ice -- wooly mammoth remains are found all over. I believe man DOES have an impact but, compared to Nature's way of changing the environment, that impact is minimal. As far as solutions, where do the tree-huggers think that electrical current comes from to charge these super-new vehicles that make batteries a newcomer to the trash dumps. If they want everyone to go back to simpler times, let the explain why we all use plastic bags; another of the tree-huggers desires! The problem is that the Earth's population is booming so fast that no natural resource is going to last long -- and that all results in climate changes in the long run.
