What We Know & Don’t Know About The Omicron Variant

Covid-19 doesn’t seem to want to leave. Another variant of this virus has emerged, and with it comes a lot of new questions that we have no answer for. Omicron, the latest variant of the new coronavirus, is considered to be the most dangerous one yet!

The World Health Organization is concerned, president Joe Biden is on alert, and pandemic expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said the virus is most likely already in the U.S. It is believed that this variant has more than 50 mutations, which makes it even riskier than the Delta variant.

A few days after the news broke all over the world, we found ourselves in an information void, reading more about the importance of vaccines against the deadly virus.

A group of scientists in Botswana and South Africa had detected this new Covid-19 variant, that has myriad mutations. Several of them are responsible for helping the virus enter and infect the cells. Just like the Delta variant, this new one needed a name as well, and the World Health Organization gave it its own Greek letter. This new variant is called Omicron and it even represents a new variant of worry and concern.

When the news broke, a number of people started quickly panicking, while others think that this new variant is no different than the previous ones. But we already know how many people from around the world have died because of Covid-19 and we are aware of how scary this actually is.
