As previously mentioned, scientists and astronomers have discovered a lot of other planets, also known as exoplanets, outside our solar system in the past decades or so, and many of those planets have gaseous environments similar to Jupiter.
At the same time, astronomers also found smaller, rocky planets, just like Earth, and other planets present in the “Goldilocks zone.” According to National Geographic, “These planets orbit their stars at a distance that allows for temperatures similar to those on Earth.”
In fact, a planet just like Earth was discovered in 2015, orbiting a star just like our sun, which NASA joked it was ‘Earth’s bigger, older cousin.’ The planet was eventually named Kepler 452b by the planet hunters who continued to search for new planets.
Additionally, another star, called Trappist, which is just 39 light-years away from Earth has been discovered to have 7 planets just like Earth orbiting it. Moreover, the solar system appears to be similar to ours, and three of its planets might even be hospitable to liquid water.
