The smalltooth sawfish

Smalltooth sawfish belong to a cartilaginous group of fish called elasmobranches, just like sharks and rays. The smalltooth sawfish, found primarily in the Florida peninsula, is one of two species of sawtooth originating in the United States. It can also found as far away as Sierra Leone and Honduras.

In adulthood, smalltooth sawfish can weigh up to 770 pounds, measuring 18 to 25 feet long. Smalltooth sawfish can destroy fishing gear because of their size, so they present a risk to fishermen.
They are often killed while they are being caught by accident. Juvenile fish that live in shallow areas rich in vegetation (such as mangrove forests) are endangered by loss of habitat.
