The man that lives in the Bay area begun showing symptoms one week post-vaccination. He received the shot on April 8, as the San Francisco Chronicle reported, and started experiencing pain in his leg and lower back area on April 16, 8 days post-vaccination.
Additionally, all 15 women that reported blood clotting also experienced the first symptoms 6 to 13 days after they received their Johnson & Johnson shot. As Andrew Leavitt, MD, a hematologist who oversaw the man’s care at UCSF has explained, the man should be able to leave the hospital in the next couple of days, if everything goes as planned.
Leavitt also mentioned that he saw the patient in the hospital on April 25, and he was doing well.”When I saw him, he was in good spirits chatting with his dad.”
Additionally, Dr. Leavitt plans on sharing all the facts about the man’s case and recovery with peer-reviewed journals, in order to help scientists figure out why these rare blood clotting events occur in the first place.
