Even though it’s not very common, several people have also reported a strange taste in their mouths after vaccination, described as ‘metal mouth’. These people have reported this side effect within a couple of minutes after receiving the shot and usually lasted for a few days.
The metallic taste was really intense, some described it as having a lot of coins in their mouths, so I can only imagine it’s not very pretty. But even though it’s unpleasant, this side effect is not dangerous, so there’s nothing to worry about.
According to John A. Sellick, Jr., DO, professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University at Buffalo-SUNY, this side effect is likely part of the immune response to the vaccine.
“I suspect it’s part of a ‘vagal’ response—the same one that gives you sweats, flushing, and lightheadedness in anticipation of an injection [or] procedure,” he added.
