A new study conducted at the University of St. Andrews, published in The Lancet Microbe journal on November 19th, analyzed 98 other studies on more than 8,000 patients that tested positive for one of the three forms of coronavirus, such as COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) or severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV).
When examining COVID-19 patients, the researchers have discovered that an individual is most infectious in the first five days after symptoms arise. According to lead author Muge Cevik, MD, a clinical lecturer in infectious diseases and medical virology at the University of St. Andrews, these findings coincide with other contract tracing studies, implying that the most infectious period is quite early. To be more precise, within the first five days after experiencing the first symptom.
These findings explain why it’s so important to self-isolate as soon as you experience your first symptom because that’s when the majority of viral transmission events occur.

This is all about money. Companies don’t want to pay employees for 14 days of quarantine. I don’t blame them, however just shortening the time is not the answer. This will cause a larger spread of the virus, making things harder on our health care system. The Federal Government needs to get their act together and think of ways to help SMALL business and employees. Otherwise we’re going to have complete mayhem going into the new year.
