If a tree falls in a forest and there’s no one around to hear it, does it really make a sound? This question is in fact closely related to another one: what is sound? The scientific definition of sound is a disturbance that travels in waves through air, water, or another medium, and can be heard.
By this definition, we could say that a sound exists even if there’s nobody there to hear it, so a falling tree does make a sound, no matter what. But according to quantum theory, if there is no one or nothing to measure the sound, then the sound is inexistent. We do hear the wheels turning in your head, however, when analyzing this matter!
