14 Things That You Inherited From Your Parents

The first one is through a dominant gene, which means that if you inherit a dominant gene, you will develop a certain trait. For example, the eye color. If both of your parents have brown eyes, you are more likely to have brown eyes as well, because it is a dominant trait.

The second method is through a recessive gene. In order for a child to have a trait, it’s required that both of the parents have that recessive gene. For example, if you have green eyes, it means that both of your parents must carry a gene for green eyes, even though their eye color is not green.

The last method consists of X-linked traits, which are found only on the X chromosome. These are passed on to the child through the mother.

Here are a few physical traits that you may have inherited from your parents:

  • my grandfather on my mother's side was called "Black Tom Murphy" ...because of his black hair. I am 86 and just started to have some gray in my black hair!!!!

  • I like it because I feel connected to my loved ones and that feels good even though they are gone,

  • My grandmother once found a picture of what she though was my dad and I and asked when it was taken. I looked at the pic but didn't recognize it. I turned it over and it was taken in 1971, 7 years before I was even born. The picture was of my mom and dad, and that's the day I realized I look exactly like my mother.

  • Very interesting about the telomeres. I was thirty one years old and always got carded. According to some people I looked eighteen or twenty.

  • My teeth are exactly like my mother’s. Every one is twisted, crowded and turned just like hers. Interesting article.

  • Dear ladies and Gentlemen,
You did NOT cover two conditions that I did inherit from my ancestors, and you could have mentioned them. One is partial color blindness, which I didn't realize that I had, but when I took an Army Physical in 1970, I was informed that I have Red-Green color blindness, which I probably got from my mother's side. Another trait that I know that I received from my mother's side is an Essential Tremor. My mother's father had a fairly severe case of this. He was as farmer, in the country, outside of Buffalo, NY. in the early 1900s. My sister also inherited this trait. My mother was one of four children (2 boys, 2 girls). All were married and had children, but my sister and I were the only lucky ones to have this trait appear. I am trying to find out if anyone else on my grandfather's side exhibited this trait. No success so far.
