What You Need to Do If You’re Living With Elderly

After all, if someone in your household has the virus, chances are the other members will catch it too if you’re not careful enough. A recent study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that if someone in your household is infected with the novel coronavirus, you have 53 percent chances of getting infected. And we all know by now that elderly are at a higher risk of developing severe symptoms and complications, so we need to make sure they stay safe at all times.

According to the CDC, even if you feel safe and risk-free at home, COVID-19 can still spread there. If you or other members of your family get infected with the novel coronavirus, it’s only a matter of time until the other members will get it too. If we’re being honest, there’s no place where you can be safe from the virus, if you’re not wearing a mask.

This is why many experts recommend wearing a mask even if you’re inside your household. According to William Schaffner, MD, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, “The value obviously would be that you are providing additional protection to people of advanced age and people with serious underlying illnesses.”

Schaffner also mentioned that “where there is much more frequent contact, and closer contact, for prolonged periods of time.”
