The unfortunate news is that our galaxy, Milky Way is expected to collide with the nearest galaxy, Andromeda, which is 2.5 million light-years away. And when two such massive galaxies collide, not many stars and planets will manage to survive the impact.
But even though they’re speeding towards each other at a very rapid pace (250,000 miles or 402,000 km per hour), the collision isn’t expected to occur in the next 4 billion years, as data from National Geographic has shown.
