While ‘Diamond’ planet might not actually be a thing (even though we need more evidence), diamond rain is a real thing. This phenomenon happens on the biggest planets of our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, due to their high levels of gas that’s causing lighting storms to transform abundant methane into carbon.
When falling, carbon firstly transforms into graphite, and then it takes the form of bona fide diamonds about a centimeter in diameter. However, you cannot become rich with these diamonds, as they will start melting as soon as they enter the planet’s molten core, according to the BBC.
