20 Unbelievable Facts About Space That Will Blow Your Mind

Why do stars twinkle?

We can see the stars twinkling from Earth, but if you would go to space, they wouldn’t twinkle anymore. The twinkling is caused by Earth’s atmosphere, so when the light of a star hits our atmosphere, its light will be refracted by it, skittering off in a zigzag.

So it’s not actually twinkling, it’s an illusion. Planets do not twinkle as they’re much bigger than stars, so even when they have the same effect in our atmosphere, those motions cancel each other, resulting in a steady glow.
