As previously mentioned, Perseverance was sent on Mars to explore and discover more about the Red Planet. However, there’s something we already know about it, and it’s the largest valley we’ve ever seen until the present moment.
As data from Space.com has shown, the system of canyons is called the Valles Marineris, and it’s 2,500 miles or 4,000 km long, making it 10 times longer than the Grand Canyon. It’s believed to having been caused by a bank of volcanoes present on the other side of the canyon.
Valles Marineris was discovered in 1971 by Mariner 9.
