The Kemp’s ridley turtle
The ridley turtle from the Kemp is close to extinction. Some Kemp’s ridley turtles, found mainly along the Gulf of Mexico, swim to the east coast of the United States, including the South Carolina shore.
The Kemp’s ridley is one of the most endangered sea turtle species in the world, due to the over-harvesting of its eggs. Additionally, it’s also the smallest species, adults have a shell length of just two feet.
