Coelacanth
It’s quite interesting but the coelacanth was considered extinct for more than 66 million years. The fish was rediscovered in 1938 by a fishing trawler by a South African museum curator. Its discovery was so unexpected that it made global headlines.
Coelacanths live in the depths of the oceans where is almost impossible to be seen by humans, more than 2,300 feet below the surface. Additionally, they weigh approximately 90 kilograms and 2 meters in length.
According to scientists, this fish can life around 60 years, and this species is more than 400 million years old. Its discovery has led many people to believe that we’re one step closer to assist the evolution of fish into terrestrial animals.
Currently, the coelacanth is also considered endangered, due to climate change and accidental capture in fishing nets.
