Your eyelashes are full of invaders.

Eyelash mites are a real thing and more than half of the population have them. Gross, right? These small creatures called mites live on your eyelashes and old skin cells, and they stick to the natural sebum produced by the hair follicles.

While there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to these mites as they’re harmless most of the time, some people can still experience certain allergic reactions. These mites are so tiny and transparent that they can only be seen through a microscope. If you’re curious how they look like, just put an eyelash or eyebrow hair under the microscope and see the invaders that are thriving on your hair follicles.

They usually spend most of the time at the base of the hair, where it meets the skin. Eyelash mites are normal and many people have them. In fact, the number of eyelash mites rises as we get older.
