Covid-19 is a strong virus that has the ability to change extremely quickly and develop into something even more dangerous than before. And this time, things are getting even crazier. In January 2022, a pregnant lady from Israel was diagnosed with two things at the same time: Covid-19 and influenza. The whole thing received the name “flurona”.
Maybe you knew about it or maybe not, but in 2021, researchers were preoccupied with the possibility of patients developing both SARS-CoV-2 infections and influenza. Their concerns are even bigger in the new year.
In conformity with Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases, there wasn’t much influenza going around last year, so they weren’t able to search and learn more about these combined infections.
According to some data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the country is on track for an average-severity influenza season. As Schaffner says, this intensity can be “significant” on its own, but when paired with COVID-19, it can be even more harmful.
