4. Jane Fonda

Before the new coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020, Jane Fonda, well-known for her workout DVDs in the ’80s, was just getting started with one of her initiatives, “Fire Drill Fridays”. This is a project where she brings famous people, scientists, and also civilians in Washington, D.C., to gather for tackling the climate change topic.

The former fitness instructor stated that the pandemic is also a wake-up sign when it comes to the climate crisis. She said that this virus has taught humanity to give more attention to science and preparedness.

In 2020, she wrote an essay for PEOPLE magazine, where she talked about how people reacted when the pandemic hit. She said that it had been demonstrated that people can take action when it comes to their families’ safety.

Jane Fonda also said that our health depends on the Earth’s health, so we should take care of it, just like we do when it comes to our own well-being.

5. Prince William

It seems as though the royal family is really passionate about the environment because prince William hopped in the climate change wagon as well. He and his team have been working on a project regarding the environment since 2018. The initiative is called the Earthshot Prize and it gives five £1m rewards to people who are making an important change to climate change and conservation.

The first five awards were given in 2021, and the project will continue until 2030. Prince William believes that this project will help people be more mindful of nature and will be more motivated to take care of it. It will promote over 50 solutions to the planet’s biggest environmental issues.

6. Prince Charles

Another public figure from the royal family that is a well-known environmental activist is Prince Charles. He created an initiative called Terra Carta, whose main objective is to make sure that big businesses include green initiatives in their plans for the future. He has enlisted some of the top companies in his program, such as BP and Bank of America.

The royal grandfather made his first environmental speech in 1970. He stated that nowadays we are at a “historic tipping point” in our lives and we should be more mindful when it comes to nature. He added that we should make sustainability a priority and we should also position nature as the motor of the economy.

7. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Portia de Rossi launched a foundation called Ellen Fund as a gift for her wife’s 60th birthday. The project’s aim is to save mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

Ellen DeGeneres’ partner said that people don’t realize how much these gorillas contribute to the environment. She said that these animals help preserve one of the largest forests on Earth just by existing. Forests keep the air clean and fresh and help fight the battle with climate change.
