Early indications that the wave is beginning to reach a new limit across the country reflect similar trends seen in the Northeast in the last weeks of January. For example, New Jersey’s average daily case counts are now 43% lower than they were two weeks ago. In the past 14 days, case counts in New York and Maryland have been reduced by a third.
However, scientists and doctors believe that it is not time to get too cheerful yet. The Omicron wave doesn’t move across the country in the same way, in conformity with Dr. Vivek Murthy, a US Surgeon General. For instance, there are a few parts of the Northeast, such as New York, where an early recession of cases can be observed.
