Two cases of the new South African variant have just been reported in South Carolina.
On January 28, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced its first two cases of the South African strain, which are also the first cases in the United States as we know of.
As they mentioned in their statement, the two cases have no recent travel history and there’s no connection between them either. Also, they live in different areas of South Carolina. One lives in the Pee Dee region while the other is from the Lowcountry.
