Myth #1. Climate change is political

Climate change and the fact that our planet is warming up are the result of human influence, such as deforestation, the burning of fossil fuels from the Industrial Revolution in the 1850s, and other such activities.

While it’s true that climate change has become a politicized topic in the United States due to fossil dependency and renewable energy hesitancy, nothing about climate change is political.

In fact, as climate expert Katherine Hayhoe has explained, no matter if you’re a democrat or a republican, if you take your temperature, you won’t receive a different reading based on your political inclinations.

As we all know by now, the thermometer’s reading is based on the science recording your body’s temperature, and the same goes for our planet.

  1. The earth had to overcome birth, 4.5 billion yrs ago. If it can overcome that challenging epic of birth why not puny mans contributions? One volcanoes eruption introduces more pollution than mans effort of yrs. does.
    Norm Flagg

  2. JOINED USA NAVY IN 1964 TO AVOID THE ARMY DRAFT.
I ATTENDED ELECTRICIAN SCHOOL AND WENT TO AN
AIRCRAFT CARRIER IN SAN DIEGO. WE MADE 2 TRIPS TO
VIET NAM. OUR SHIP HAD 3,500 MEN ABORD; I WAS PROMOTED
TO E-4 ELECTRICIANS MATE. I DO NOT REGRET ANY DECIONS
THAT I MADE IN MY LIFE. MY WIFE AND I ARE MARRIED 50
YEARS NOW. PRAISE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. I AM SURE
    THAT EVERYONE AGREES…AMEN.

  3. It is 100% political. Who wrote this silly article? Humans have NO CONTROL of the planet. It controls us. What is the #1 cause of temperatures going up? Volcanoes. Long before humans lived volcanoes controlled the planet. Present: warm. Absent: cold.

    1. Don’t confuse the anti-oil, anti-Western Civilization zealots. They want us all to be Third World Countries.

  4. Actually volcanoes cool the earth. The ashes block the sun. 1992 was “the year without a summer” because of weakened sunlight from Mount Pinatubo erupting.

    1. John, just a small fact about Pinatubo. First, I saw the eruption in person. Second, and most important, the eruption of Pinatubo did more damage the earths attmosphere than all of human existance on this planet and it fixes itself. If the tree hugging community were to be unable to strike fear in public at large, then they’d lose all funding. Always follow the money.

    2. Depends who is recording temps and their biases. Polar bears aren’t in the fossil record millions of years ago because polar ice wasn’t regular until 100,000 or so years ago. Record high temps since 2001? Were they recorded in cities where concrete & buildings up the temps, or out in nature. Warmest temps ever recorded? You mean since themometers were invented barely 150 years ago? Very, very, very,…. tiny data set.

Well I’m old enough to remember global cooling. We were going to become an ice ball. What happened? I was willing to listen to your opinion, however it became clear that this poorly written article or it was not edited thoroughly was not going to shed any light on the theory of GW. Which alway lessens my interest in following the story. Here are just a few examples of what I mean.
“making it much less cheap” that’s my favorite
“This is the biggest crisis we ever have to say, and sadly it’s man-made.”
    “now how to survive”
There are many other little things that make this hard to take seriously.
I’m just a simple old man. I’m not a writer, but I’ve always noticed these little things that annoyed me. But I’m willing to do my part so here’s a helpful solution for two problems. To help with water problems in the western part of the country crank up the desalinization plant on the California coast. Also bring in the desalinization ships that the US Navy has and pump that water into the the farmlands, lakes and reservoirs. I know they don’t have big hoses, and it’s not like filling a pool. However I’m sure the US Army Corps of Engineers “Essayons” (let us try) can find a way to transport the fresh water to the right location. This, I’m sure you already realized, will take a massive amount of water from the ocean which may help with global sea rise.

  6. The climate has always changed. Now scientists are once again saying we may be entering another ice age. The sun’s activity is what controls the earth’s temperature, in particular, sun spots, which are few right now. Please note that the temperature on Mars fluxuates with the same pattern as Earth. No SUVs or cow farts on Mars.

  7. The most significant argument is made from the ice core samples in the Arctic that go back 3000 years. The carbon trapped in the ice for 3000 years has been insignificant until you get to the point in the late 1800s when the industrial revolution began. At that point the graph for C02 trapped in the ice shows that our atmosphere has been polluted by the fossil fuels that have spewed into our atmosphere from factories and vehicles. That’s all one needs to look at to prove that it is mankind that is causing the global warming.

  8. If it wasn’t for climate change we’d still be living in the ice age and I don’t recall there being industrialization by cave man! Argue THAT point!
Before the ice age the planet was very warm. That’s more climate change not caused by man. Maybe it was aliens.
That makes as much sense as blaming man. If they were really worried about pollution
why not go after the world’s biggest polluter…..China?

  9. I’m old enough to remember the 60’s when we couldn’t see the hills 5 miles away.
The air is MUCH cleaner now
now than it has ever been and yet these Gen-X pseudo scientists are trying to tell us the air is the most polluted in history……PURE POLITICAL B.S.

  10. Interesting. I wrote a comment about China being the the worst polluters and somehow it managed to disappear!
If this isn’t politically motivated why am I being censored for telling the truth?

  11. From Dr. Steven Koonin’s book “Unsettled”: Koonin said, “If we did nothing, the global temperature would increase 1.5 degrees C by the end of this century. “He said it increased 1.0 degrees C during the last century. No big deal!
    • Humans have had no detectable impact on hurricanes over the past century.
    • Greenland’s ice sheet isn’t shrinking any more rapidly today than it was eighty years ago.
    • The net economic impact of human-induced climate change will be minimal through at least the end of this century
    • Humans exert a growing, but physically small, warming influence on the climate.
    • Government and UN press releases and summaries do not accurately reflect the reports themselves. Distinguished climate experts are embarrassed by some media portrayals of the science. This was somewhat shocking.
    • In short, the science is insufficient to make useful projections about how the climate will change over the coming decades, much less what effect our actions will have on it.

  12. What the US does about CO2 is inconsequential when the rest of the world ignores it.
In the 2019 Paris Climate Accord, the US was committed to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28% below 2005 levels by 2025.
The US lowered CO2 emissions by about 24% through 2020 while becoming energy independent – by innovation: (CO2 emissions United States 2020 from Statista).
How is it possible that China, the second largest economy in the world, is considered a “developing country” and thus does not need to start lowering emissions until 2030?
But China is by far the largest CO2 emitter on the planet (28% of global emissions), and growing fast.
China continues to build coal-fired power plants at a higher rate than the rest of the world combined.
In 2020, China added 38.4 GW of new coal-fired power, more than three times everywhere else. A total of 247 GW of coal power is now in planning or development.
China pledged that its emissions will peak around 2030, but that would still mean that the country is generating huge quantities of CO2 (Climate Action Tracker analysis).

  13. This article lost me when they startled interjecting skewed data such as “ the earth has never been this warm in 800,000yrs”. The recording of earth temperatures weren’t started in earnest until a little over 100 years ago.
Second “myth” with skewed data was that plants don’t need CO2. Crazy. Plants need co2 for photosynthesis which releases more O2 into the air.
This article feels like it was written by an uneducated 4th grader

  14. The Earth’s climate is cyclic. Early on, the Earth was mostly molten rock but that was before the Ice Age. Florida used to be under water with sharks roaming the “state.” Dinosaurs used to walk the planet when most of it was covered with snow and ice — wooly mammoth remains are found all over. I believe man DOES have an impact but, compared to Nature’s way of changing the environment, that impact is minimal. As far as solutions, where do the tree-huggers think that electrical current comes from to charge these super-new vehicles that make batteries a newcomer to the trash dumps. If they want everyone to go back to simpler times, let the explain why we all use plastic bags; another of the tree-huggers desires! The problem is that the Earth’s population is booming so fast that no natural resource is going to last long — and that all results in climate changes in the long run.

  15. Like others, I started reading the article and it quickly became apparent this was another, ‘blame man (mostly Americans) for what is billed as GW. As noted, they always fail to acknowledge the Sun, which I believe, is the single biggest factor when it comes to the warming/cooling cycles of the earth.
Also, as others have mentioned, they use certain words and phrases which give-away their position and this article is no different; for instance, they say “existential” or “biggest threat ever” which is an alert that this is a article that claims we have very few years remaining to “save the world”. They say “save the world” but they mean, “save life” because the earth will not go anywhere regardless of what humans do.
But the left will never change. They will continue to create crisis’ so they can garner more control over the people who make a living and pay the taxes that keep thier wild ideas afloat,
