Pennhurst Asylum

When Pennhurst Asylum was opened in 1908, it began as a school for children with mental health conditions and disabilities. However, after a while, it became something else.

According to Listverse.com, “a former patient filed a federal class-action lawsuit against the asylum. Halderman v. Pennhurst State School & Hospital showed that Pennhurst had violated its patients’ Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment rights and led to the landmark ruling that the disabled in state care have a constitutional right to appropriate care and education.”

Apparently, the staff abused the patients in many ways, including strapping adult patients into children’s cribs for days or even weeks, chaining patients to the walls, or even by killing them in cold murder.

Those who visit the building today must be prepared to experience paranormal encounters and even see or hear creepy things.
