Ararat Lunatic Asylum

Ararat Lunatic Asylum was the largest asylum in Australia back in the day, when it was opened in 1867, in Ararat, Victoria. The facility was completely shut down in 1997, and since then, it is considered to be one of the most hunted buildings in Australia.

Ararat Lunatic Asylum used to be the home to tens of thousands of patients over time, with more than 13,000 patients ending up dead without a reasonable explanation. The asylum was practically a prison since there were many violent criminals with mental health conditions. The patients have been abused by the staff and had to endure a lot of pain during the 130 years the institution operated.

Ararat Lunatic Asylum was repurposed as a university, but some people still believe it’s haunted, due to all the people that tragically died between its walls.
