5. MCA DiscoVision
MCA DiscoVision was produced between 1978 and 1982, introducing the laserdisc technology to the world. DiscoVision had to offer a sharper picture and better audio than VHS and Betamax, that hit the stores a year earlier, but the downsides were the price and the bulky and clunky appearance, besides the fact that it couldn’t record movies or TV shows.
Therefore, after a few years, MCA gave up the DiscoVision project. Laserdisc players continued to be produced until 1990s by Phillips and Panasonic, but never enjoyed a resounding success, being more of a niche device for true home cinema enthusiasts.
