What mountain top is farthest from the Earth’s center?
If your answer is Mount Everest, guess again. It’s true that the peak of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) above sea level, which makes it the world’s highest mountain. But the mountain top which is in fact the farthest from the core of the earth is Chimborazo in Ecuador.
Why? Because the pull of gravity on the planet makes the earth bulge at the equator. With Chimborazo right on the earth’s bulge, this means it is the farthest from the earth’s center and the highest point on earth. So, there you have it!
