What color is the blood in your veins?
A quick look at your veins might prompt you to say that your blood is blue and it becomes red when exposed to oxygen outside of the body. But it’s really not blue, not even if you’re royal. The truth is blood is always red, no matter where it is.
That’s because it contains hemoglobin, a protein which has a red-colored compound called heme that facilitates the transport of oxygen through our bloodstream. When seen through our skin, blood might seem blue because of the way our veins reflect light. Sorry to burst your bubble, but blue blood is just another myth!
