Ecraseur
This tool was used in the early 1800s, and it was an instrument that eliminated hemorrhoids, uterine and ovarian tumors. The toll was placed near the base of the unwanted growth and gradually strangled the surplus.
The ecraseur was known to cut off the excess growth’s blood supply until it fell off. We can only imagine how painful this procedure was, especially when we talk about hemorrhoids, but doctors used to believe that it was less painful than cutting.

Artificial leeches
At the beginning of the 19th century, there was no such thing as live leeches. Therefore, doctors used a metal cylinder with blades to cut into the skin and suction the blood out. Additionally, another tool just like this was called the scarificator, and it was used to slice into the skin and create a vacuum. Sound very painful, don’t you agree?
