Geomagnetic reversals might end us

The Earth’s magnetic field protects all species from the things the Sun throws at us. However, the position of the north and south magnetic poles flip every now and then. We don’t know for sure how long it takes and how often it occurs. The scientists still couldn’t figure out what will happen when the poles flip. The flip might cause exposure to the solar wind, allowing the Sun to steal our oxygen, or it might not be as bad as we think.

Volcanoes

Did you know that volcanoes have contributed to 11 major extinction level events? A volcano can easily kill by releasing dust, sulfur oxides, and carbon dioxide into the air, resulting in the poisoning of the land and sea with acid rain, global warming, and the collapse of food chains.

The most notable extinctions caused by volcanic eruptions were the End-Permian, End-Triassic, and End-Cretaceous. The next time you go on a vacation at Yellowstone, which currently has a ‘supervolcano’ growing beneath it, make sure you take a good look at it and understand the implications a volcano can have when it erupts.
