Nevada’s Area 51, officially called Homey Airport (KXTA) or Groom Lake, has been the center of many conspiracy theories for decades. Even though it opened in 1955, during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, it was only officially acknowledged by the CIA in 2013.

When you hear Area 51 you probably think about aliens, their technology and aircraft. Other conspiracy theories might suggest that the well-known 1947 Roswell crash was in fact a Soviet aircraft controlled by mutated midgets, speculating that its remains are now inside Area 51.

Other rumors might suggest that the United States government even filmed the 1969 moon landing inside Area 51. And the list of conspiracy theories and speculations can go on forever…
The only thing we know for sure is that Are 51 is very much real and active. There might not be alien autopsies or UFOs inside, but something interesting and highly secretive is definitely going on.

According to aerospace historian and author Peter Merlin who’s been researching Area 51 for more than three decades, “The forbidden aspect of Area 51 is what makes people want to know what’s there.”
