10. Lake Carnegie, Western Australia
Ephemeral Lake Carnegie is a lake in Western Australia. Unlike other lakes, this one only fills up with water when there are significant rainfalls. Otherwise, there is no lake, just a huge marsh filled up with mud.
This image is not completely natural, due to the fact that the colors are edited. They were made by using red wavelengths and shortwave infrared.
The lake was named after David Carnegie, an Englishman who explored Western Australia around the 1890s. It is roughly 62 miles in length and 19 miles wide. Even though it is not filled up with water constantly, it is still one of the largest lakes that can be found in Australia.
