4. Jason and the phytoplankton

This blue-colored picture was acquired by the Operational Land Imager on the Landsat 8 satellite on October 18, 2020. These swirls of deep blue water indicate the existence of phytoplankton (plant-like organisms that are microscopic and use chlorophyll to develop sunlight for energy) around the western Jason Islands, which is an archipelago of West Falkland Island.

Phytoplankton are also important because it serves as primary food for marine animals, such as fish and zooplankton. In addition to that, they are one of the most significant producers of the oxygen that makes Terra a livable planet. 

Phytoplankton use to get piled up along the edges of currents and they make some of these dynamic ocean patterns noticeable.
