Gaius Julius Caesar

Gaius Julius Caesar is definitely the person you think of when you look back into Roman antiquity. He was definitely a rule breaker and one of the most powerful politicians at that time. When his Governorship came to an end, the Roman Senate commanded him to step down from his military authority and retract his army from the Rubicon River.

However, Julius Caesar defied the Senate’s authority and broke several laws, and decided to cross the Rubicon River and march towards Rome. He was the head of the army and while he crossed the river, he said: “Alea iacta est” which means “the die has been cast.”

And this is how the Roman Civil War has begun, and needless to say, he won. By breaking the law, Julius Caesar became the “dictator for life” and did many good things for the Roman Empire and for the people as well, making him very loved among Romans.

However, he also upset a lot of powerful people with his success and was finally assassinated by a group of senators, who stabbed him to death.
