According to Scherer, “If a COVID long-hauler’s reaction is in the mouth, it’s a defense mechanism against the virus. Gum disease is very sensitive to hyper-inflammatory reactions, and COVID long-haulers certainly fall into that category.”
Additionally, Medline Plus has added that the inflammation can easily spread to the ligaments that support the teeth, causing them to fall out, as they are no longer supported by the bone. This could happen even months after the infection with the coronavirus, Scherer has added.
