The existence of extremophiles on Earth

If you do not know what extremophiles are, they are organisms that are able to survive in extreme weather conditions, such as heat and cold. They can thrive in environments very different than those we are able to live in.

There are creatures that can live without oxygen, who live at the bottom of the sea, in the desert, in the Arctic in ice-covered waters, or around active volcanoes. Unsurprisingly, those creatures can live in space as well, and they’re known as tardigrades.

The discovery of extremophiles definitely paved the way to a lot of other scientific discoveries, changed our whole perception of extraterrestrial life, and gave us hope that we’ll find other life forms outside our planet, as well.
