Just because we’re not dealing with certain things in our personal lives, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Some people definitely had it harsher than others in this pandemic. While for some of us the quarantine gave us the chance to spend some quality time with our families, others were not as lucky.
Even though domestic violence existed before COVID-19, the pandemic definitely made things harder for certain individuals that were forced to quarantine with their aggressor. That’s why the number of domestic violence cases has drastically increased in the past year, but another issue was the inability to seek help during quarantine.
Individuals in desperate situations where they’ve been the victim of their partner’s abuse have not been able to safely call hotlines or visit support centers for help. The American Journal of Emergency Medicine (AJEM) provided a lot of concerning details for the domestic violence trends that happened all around the world in 2020.
