Obesity.
As you might know already, obesity qualifies as high-risk for contracting COVID-19, but the pandemic also increased obesity rates among Americans. Since we spend so much time inside our home, we tend to eat a lot out of boredom and lack of physical activity.
People also tend to eat out of stress, because food consumption has been linked to temporary numbing unpleasant feelings. A lot of people ended up gaining 15 pounds during quarantine, that’s how the term “Quarantine 15” became popular on all social media platforms.
Over-eating is also a possible side effect that some people experienced after contracting the virus. A physician from the Apollo Hospitals in Seshadripuram mentioned that individuals who experienced a loss of smell and taste during infection are likely to start binge-eating soon after.
As Dr. Dinesh V Kamath has explained, “We are seeing many recovered patients in the age group 40-60 years putting on weight. They say they have been overeating.”
