Neptune is making its own heat.
You’d imagine that Neptune is a very dark and cold place, since it’s so far from the sun, 2.8 billion miles away from it to be more precise. It’s true that it’s never actually bright on Neptun, as NASA compared the noon on this giant planet with Earth’s twilight.
That’s quite normal since this giant planet is way too far for the sun rays to reach it. But what’s very cool about this planet, is that it’s making its own heat. Yes, you’ve heard right. In fact, Neptune is actually making 2.6 times more heat than it receives from the distant sun.
As many scientists have explained, this strange phenomenon could be caused by the pressure near its core, causing the release of hydrogen. According to Space.com, Neptune’s center is as high as 9,300 degrees Fahrenheit, while its atmosphere is a -361.
