Jupiter’s red spot is actually shrinking!

The Great Red Spot (GRS) that’s Jupiter’s trademark is actually becoming smaller and smaller as time passes. GRS used to be three times bigger than Earth, and now it shrunk to the size of our planet. Its current size is 8,000 miles, and although it’s still enormous, it used to be a lot bigger 300 years ago, according to Space.com.

It’s incredible how a spot can shrink, and now you might wonder, how is that possible? Well, the Great Red Spot is not actually a spot, is actually a cyclone. Since Jupiter is the biggest planet of all eight present in the Solar System, it contains a lot of gases, which cause many storms around it. The Red Spot is the most powerful high-pressure-system storm that’s occurring around the planet.

And even though it’s not as big as it used to be 300 years ago, it definitely not going to disappear anytime soon.
