Is a booster shot needed?

Although the presented data reinforces the importance of the full dose vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, it also presents a reduced vaccine efficacy against the Delta variant. Hence, further investigations need to be made in advance, maybe even with the possibility of vaccine booster shots.

That’s why companies are already started to develop booster doses, so the efficacy against any future circulating variants be higher. Pfizer has already started to seek FDA authorization for its booster dose, which is expected to have a stronger neutralization against the Delta variant.

Even so, our antibodies alone cannot give us the full picture of immune protection. The conversation about whether we should get a booster shot or not is still ongoing.
