Epidemiologists are also stating that it can cause more severe diseases, especially in people who are not vaccinated. Ashleigh Tuite, PhD, an infectious disease epidemiologist at the University of Toronto in Ontario, says that Delta comes with an increased risk of ICU admission, hospitalization and death.

Along with her coauthor, David Fisman, MD, she reviewed the health outcomes of 200,000 people who had the SARS-CoV-2 variant. And starting from February, Ontario began screening all positive COVID tests for mutations.

The Delta variants(yes, there are more than just one), have mutated 15 times from the original virus. But this one has a mutation that caught the attention of all researchers- it’s called P681R.
